The text is too small?  

The text size can be chosen from the menu list at the top of the browser:  

  • In Internet Explorer choose "View", the text size can be adjusted under "Font size".
  • In Netscape Navigator choose "View", you can change the text under "Text Size".
  • If you use Opera, choose "View", you can change the size of text and pictures under the menu "Zoom Factor".
  • In Firefox choose "View", you can make the text bigger under the menu item "Font Size". This also works using the mouse - hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and drag the mouse over the word.
  • If you are using the keyboard to navigate and using Windows: press the CTRL key and + to make the text bigger or CTRL and - to make the text smaller.
  • If you are navigating with the keyboard and using a Mac: press the Command key (Apple key) and + to make the text bigger, press the Command key (Apple key) and - to make the text smaller.

How can I navigate quickly around a site?

There are several possibilities:

  • Choose the required content in the left hand navigation bar or click on "Content" in the horizontal Navigation. Here you will see all menu items. You can also find "Content" using the Search function.
  • You can navigate to points that you have previously looked at. You can find the path navigation under the content in the dark blue bar. The path will show you exactly where you are.
  • At the end of the page you can use the "Top of Page" link to go back to the Contents area.
  • You can use the arrow keys in the browser to scroll. Use the left arrow to go to pages that you have already visited. You can continue to browse with the right arrow.

Using bookmarks

Do you want to visit the WEB for ALL website regularly? Bookmarks help you to quickly find the site again. If you have set Bookmarks in your browser, you don't have to type the web address again, selecting the Bookmark will do it for you. If you want to bookmark a site, click on the menu item "Bookmarks" and then on "Insert Bookmark". This function is called "Favourites" in Internet Explorer.

Using the keyboard

You can move from link to link using Tab key. The link to which you move can be identified by the altered text or the background colour. The active link can be selected with the Enter key.

What does the symbol before a link mean?

The symbol refers to the fact that a new window will be opened when the link is clicked on. The new window will be positioned over the internet site which was previously opened. You have several possibilities to get back to the previous site:

  • In the new window click on the cross in the top right in order to close the browser
  • The new window can also be closed using the key combination ALT + F4.
  • The new window can be minimised using the button with the horizontal bar in the top right hand corner. Browser windows can be minimised by clicking on the corresponding tab on the taskbar. By clicking again on the tab, it can be maximised again.
  • The key combination ALT + Tab can also be used to switch between browser windows.

What do the abbreviations mean? What settings are there for blind users?

The meaning of an abbreviation can be seen by sighted users when they move the mouse over the word.

Blind users can read the whole word when they put the abbreviation into Screenreader.

In JAWS the settings can be made in the Configuration Manager:

  • Open the Configuration Manager with the key combination Insert + 6.
  • Choose "Options Settings" with the ALT key and the character key O.
  • Go to "HTML-Settings" and choose the "Text" tab. The tab can be reached using the Shift key and the Tab key. You can move between the Tabs using the arrow keys.
  • Activate the control fields "Expand Abbreviations" and "Expand Acronyms". Click OK.

How do I print the text? 

  • The website content can be printed using the link "Print Preview" The link is found at the end of the page.
  • A new window will be opened with the site content and a print window.

How can I view PDF data?

PDF files cannot be opened directly in a browser but with an additional program. In order to view PDF files on the internet, Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer.
